Welcome: Welcome to fourth grade! This website you will find information about our classroom, homework, and other things going on in our classroom.
Welcome Fourth Grade Parents,
This is going to be a marvelous school year! We have a great year of learning planned at Bush Magnet School. Fourth graders are developing as independent readers and writers. Daily reading and writing is essential for growth. In mathematics, fourth graders study place-value, multiplication and division, compare the size of fractions and decimals. Developing fluency with facts takes repetition and practice. Topics we will study over the course of the year include animal adaptation, the body, traditional Native American cultures, the Lewis and Clark Expedition, Westward Expansion, magnetism and electricity, water as a resource, and Idaho as a state. I am committed to helping your child grow academically. I am counting on your support.
School is a place where children learn to cooperate, complete assigned tasks, and follow directions. At Bush, everyone is expected to exhibit behaviors that contribute to a positive learning environment. I want all students to feel safe, to give their best effort, and grow.
Please help your child be to at school on time, rested, and ready to learn every day. Try to schedule appointments and vacations when school is not in session.
My goal is to keep homework purposeful and reasonable. I believe homework should never be a burden to the child or the family. Also research has been unable to prove that homework has an impact on your students’ learning. Due to this students will only have a reading log each night for their homework. They may also bring work home that they were unable to finish during the time given in class. If you would like other work for your student please visit our classroom website to see what math skills we are working on and where you can find skill based worksheets.
Homework Folders will come home daily Mondays through Thursdays. Watch for student work samples and information from the teacher, school, and community on Tuesdays.
Classroom Money SystemThis year your student will have the opportunity to earn classroom money. Students are paid for every day they come to school ready to learn with homework completed. Bonus money can be earned for going above and beyond in school performance. Students may be charged money for things such as breaking rules, not complying with directions, or incomplete homework. Students who earn $100.00 of classroom money over the course of the year will earn a special field trip at the end of the year. Classroom money may also be spent at classroom auctions for games, books, toys, school supplies, and other treats. Donations of items to auction are welcome.
BirthdaysYou are welcome to send birthday treats to the class if you wish. They must be store bought. District health policy does not allow for sharing homemade foods. Please let me know if you intend to send treats so that I can make time in the day for your child to share them.
I look forward to a great year of learning together in 4th grade!
